ISLAMABAD: The first chief justice of the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) will take oath of office today at the presidency.
Justice Aminuddin Khan, who previously headed the Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench, has been appointed as the FCC’s chief justice. His appointment was approved by President Asif Ali Zardari, following which the Law and Justice Ministry issued the official notification.
Sources said that other judges of the FCC will also take oath.
According to the notification, his appointment will come into effect once he takes the oath as the Chief Justice of the FCC.
The oath taking ceremony will takeplace today at 10 a.m. President Asif Ali Zardari will administer the oath. Chief justices and judges of superior courts, along with senior government officials, have been invited to attend the ceremony.
Born in 1960 in Multan, Justice Aminuddin Khan obtained his LL.B. from University Law College, Multan, in 1984. He began his legal career under the guidance of his father, Khan Sadiq Muhammad Ahsan.
He became an advocate of the Lahore High Court in 1987 and later joined the Supreme Court Bar in 2001. That same year, he joined Zafar Law Chambers in Multan, where he worked until his elevation as a judge in 2011.
Justice Aminuddin Khan took oath as a Supreme Court judge in 2019. In November 2024, he was appointed head of the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench and was serving as the fourth most senior judge of the apex court.
Arrangments completed
Arrangements have been finalized in Islamabad High Court for the oath-taking ceremony of six judges of the Constitutional Court.
According to sources, preparations for the ceremony have been made in the open area between the judges of the Islamabad High Court and the admin block.
The sources added that the six judges will take their oath at the Islamabad High Court, with Chief Justice Aminuddin administering the oath to the other judges.
