Who is Justice Aminuddin Khan, newly appointed chief justice of Federal Constitutional Court

President Asif Ali Zardari appointed Justice Aminuddin Khan – a senior judge from Multan, as the first Chief Justice of the newly-established Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) on the advice of Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif after the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

Justice Aminuddin Khan started his legal career almost 40 years ago, and earlier led the constitutional bench that was later dissolved under the 26th Constitutional Amendment last year.  

Justice Khan was born in a noble family of lawyers of the time in Multan on December 1, 1960. According to the Supreme Court’s website, Justice Aminuddin Khan received his early education from a local school in Multan.

After finishing his secondary school education in 1977, he did his Bachelor’s Degree in philosophy and completed his LLB from University Law College, Multan in 1984. He also did a diploma in Taxation law from Multan.  

After completing his education, Justice Amin Uddin Khan started practicing as a junior lawyer with his father. He obtained the license to practice in lower courts in 1985. In 1987, he joined the Lahore High Court (LHC) as an advocate.  

A few years later, in 2001, he became an advocate of the Supreme Court. He also joined a local law firm in Multan in the same year.

Justice Khan has a majorly in civil law, handling cases from the trial court to the Supreme Court. He has an interest in the cases related to property, pre-emption, and inheritance as well.  

Justice Aminuddin Khan was appointed as a judge of the LHC in 2011. In the early days as a president, he got famous for dealing with long-standing civil cases properly. In 2019, he became a judge of the Supreme Court and was also a part of a nine-member bench that reviewed the reference against the illegal hanging of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
