Web desk: Hackers allegedly linked to Israel and India disrupted the transmission of Geo News and targeted the Tamasha streaming app in a coordinated cyber intrusion that briefly aired content described as hostile to Pakistan’s armed forces, officials said on Saturday.
Technical teams moved quickly to contain the breach and restore normal services across affected platforms.
According to officials familiar with the matter, the attackers inserted anti–Pakistan military material into Geo News’ transmission feed. The unauthorized content remained on air for a short duration before engineers regained control.
At the same time, the Tamasha digital streaming platform was also compromised, with users reporting irregular content and temporary service disruption. Technical staff isolated affected systems and initiated security protocols to prevent further intrusion.
Authorities have launched a formal investigation to trace the origin and method of the cyberattack. Initial findings suggest external actors targeted broadcast and digital distribution infrastructure rather than editorial systems.
Cybersecurity experts are conducting forensic analysis and coordinating with relevant agencies to identify those responsible. Officials said they are assessing vulnerabilities and reinforcing digital defenses across media networks.
The incident unfolds amid elevated regional tensions, where cyber operations increasingly accompany political and military disputes. Analysts say media outlets and digital platforms are becoming primary targets in cross-border information campaigns.
Officials emphasized that services have largely been restored and that additional safeguards are being implemented to protect broadcast integrity and prevent future breaches.
