Web Desk: Authorities in Pakistan’s capital suspended Metro Bus operations and closed public hiking trails on Monday as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Islamabad for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and discussing regional diplomatic efforts.
Metro Bus officials said services across Islamabad would remain fully suspended throughout the day because of heightened security arrangements linked to the Iranian leader’s visit. However, authorities continued Metro Bus operations in neighboring Rawalpindi from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Officials added that bus services would remain operational between Saddar Station and Faizabad, while the route connecting IJP Road and Pak Secretariat would stay closed for the day.
Meanwhile, Islamabad’s hiking trails were also shut as security agencies implemented additional measures ahead of the high-level meetings.
The visit underscores growing engagement between Tehran and Islamabad at a time of heightened regional diplomatic activity. Iranian officials said Pezeshkian’s trip aims to acknowledge Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the United States.
In addition, the Iranian president is expected to thank Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for Islamabad’s role in encouraging diplomatic engagement and supporting mediation efforts, according to Iranian officials.
Ahead of the visit, authorities decorated major roads, government buildings and key public spaces across Islamabad to welcome the Iranian leader. Banners, flags and ceremonial displays lined several routes leading to official venues in the capital.
During the visit, both sides are expected to discuss bilateral cooperation, trade, border security, energy collaboration and regional stability. Analysts view the trip as another step toward strengthening political and economic relations between the neighboring countries.
Pakistan and Iran share longstanding diplomatic ties and frequently coordinate on regional issues, including security cooperation and economic connectivity initiatives.
