Web Desk: The 2025 India’s Google search trends show an unexpected increase in defense-related queries, with concepts such as “ceasefire” and “mock drill”. They were one of the top most-searched phrases by indians during this year.

The public interest drove the spike, especially during the May 2025 military standoff with Pakistan. This was all revealed in Google’s “Year in Search” report.

As the news channels repeatedly used words like “missile strikes”, “ceasefire”, and “mock drills” during the four-day escalation. Millions of Indians rushed online to understand basic military terminology.

It was May 7 when India fired missiles at what it claimed were terrorist bases in Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and started the crisis.

Escalation peaked when India fired at Pakistan’s military bases with missiles. Pakistan responded by striking Indian installations across the border.

US President Donald Trump brokered a ceasefire, as fears of full-scale war grew.

The ceasefire was achieved on May 10 which ended four days of intense cross-border strike. However, it left a lasting digital footprint.

It is interesting to note that majority of Indians did not know basic military technologies and had to search on Google to understand what was happening.
