If a filmmaker presents the country’s real picture, it may become difficult for them to continue living in Pakistan afterward, says Faisal Qureshi
Renowned Pakistani actor Faisal Qureshi has claimed that India does not want Pakistani content to be available on Netflix.
In a recent podcast, Faisal Qureshi revealed that there are two reasons why Pakistani content does not make it to Netflix. One is that Indian audiences do not want Pakistani content to get this opportunity, while the second is that Netflix has a limited business presence in Pakistan.
When asked, “In your opinion, when will Pakistani content appear on Netflix?” he replied, “If I tell the truth, Indians do not want to see Pakistani content on Netflix. Secondly, we ourselves do not show the complete truth, whereas Netflix wants every country to present its reality, its issues, and the darker side of its society.”
Faisal Qureshi further said, “In Pakistan, it is not easy to show everything openly because if a filmmaker presents the country’s real picture, it may become difficult for them to continue living in Pakistan afterward.”
Referring to Netflix’s limited revenue in Pakistan, he said, “Most Pakistanis do not purchase their own Netflix subscriptions. Instead, they use the accounts of friends or relatives living abroad.”
Because of this, Netflix does not earn from Pakistan what it earns from India, where the market is much larger.
Faisal Qureshi added that in Pakistan, whenever a new film is released, the first question people ask is, “When will it be available on YouTube?”
