Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has resigned from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) national selection committee for not being consulted on recent team changes following the national Test team’s poor performance against England.
Misbah submitted his resignation to the PCB through an e-mail, which has confirmed receiving it. Asad Shafiq is also reportedly considering stepping down from the selection committee amid growing criticism over Pakistan’s recent performances.
Misbah has said that recent changes made to the Pakistan team were not discussed with him, which led to his decision to step down from the selection committee.
The development comes after Pakistan’s disappointing Test performance against England, which has put the national selection committee and team management under intense scrutiny.
The PCB is also expected to make major changes to the Test team’s coaching setup. The board has reportedly decided to remove head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul from their positions.
Mike Hesson is being considered for the role of Pakistan Test team head coach, while Ashley Noffke could be appointed as the new bowling coach.
The PCB has also decided to carry out strict accountability following the team’s poor results. Officials and others who have failed to deliver the required performances could face action as the board looks to address the problems affecting Pakistan cricket.
