The government has introduced a major new facility for Pakistanis seeking employment abroad by officially launching the online e-Protector registration system.
The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment said the digital platform has been introduced to make the emigration process easier, faster and more transparent.
Under the new system, individuals travelling overseas for employment can now complete their Protector registration online using a mobile phone or computer without visiting a Protector office.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at replacing the traditional, time-consuming registration process, sparing applicants repeated office visits, long waiting times and unnecessary expenses.
Previously, overseas workers—particularly those living in remote areas—had to travel to Protector offices and complete several formalities in person, resulting in additional costs and delays. With the introduction of the e-Protector system, these steps can now be completed entirely online.
According to the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment, the system has been developed in accordance with the Emigration Ordinance, 1979, and other relevant laws to ensure legal compliance while providing citizens with a secure and modern digital service.
Applicants will be able to enter their information, upload the required documents, pay the prescribed fee and complete the registration process online through a mobile phone, laptop or computer, eliminating the need to visit a Protector office.
Experts say the digital system will reduce both time and costs for applicants while improving transparency, efficiency and oversight of the emigration process. Maintaining digital records will also help the government with policymaking, support for overseas Pakistanis and legal protection.
The government described the e-Protector system as an important step towards digital governance, saying it will benefit hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis who travel abroad for employment each year by making the emigration process faster, safer and more efficient.
