President of Azerbaijan Praises Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal’s Peace Efforts, Says Only Pakistan Has the Ability to Resolve the Iran-US Dispute
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has said that only Pakistan has the capability to help resolve the Iran-US conflict.
Addressing the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum in Baku, President Aliyev praised Pakistan’s role in promoting peace, saying that the peace efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Field Marshal are commendable. He appreciated their commitment to regional peace and expressed hope that Pakistan would once again succeed in its efforts to establish peace in the region.
He also stated that Azerbaijan is seriously considering not only suspending or freezing its membership but also completely withdrawing from the Council of Europe.
President Aliyev said that Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset had contacted him and urged Azerbaijan not to take such a step and to find a way to improve relations.
The Council of Europe is a 46-member human rights organization separate from the European Union and oversees the European Court of Human Rights. Although Azerbaijan remains a full member of the Council of Europe, the voting rights of its delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe were suspended in 2024.
