The federal government has announced nationwide public holidays on the occasion of Ashura. According to an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division, June 25 and 26 will be public holidays across the country.
The holidays will apply to all government offices and institutions, regardless of whether they operate on a five- or six-day working week schedule.
Separately, authorities have imposed a ban on pillion riding in the federal capital for security reasons, while mobile phone services will remain operational during the period.
The federal govt has initiated its first-ever comprehensive security application, “Mahfooz Muharram,” to boost law and order arrangements during Muharram-ul-Haram.
The unique digital initiative has been introduced for the first time in the federal capital’s history to ensure foolproof security during religious gatherings, processions, and majalis.
Authorities said that geo-tagging of all imam bargahs, majalis venues, and procession routes has been completed, while drone-based digital surveillance has also been activated across the city.
The decisions were taken during a high-profile meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, which reviewed comprehensive security arrangements for Muharram.
A four-layer security plan has also been put in place for gatherings and processions to ensure the safety of the public and Ashura processions.
