Flood situation continues in Punjab: DG PDMA

WEBDESK: The Director General of PDMA (DG PDMA) rfan Ali Kathia, said while speaking to the media on Saturday that the flood situation in Punjab continous.

A powerful flood surge in the Sutlej River has affected several low lying areas.

Authorities have evacuated villages near the Sutlej river as a precaution, as the surge moves towards Head Suleimanki. At Ganda Singh Wala, the river is currently flowing at 303,000 cusecs, signalling a dangerous situation.

So far, 30,380 acres of agricultural land have been submerged, causing severe damage to crops, homes, and infrastructure. Areas around Sargodha are also facing flooding.

PDMA, Rescue 1122, district administrations, and the Pakistan Army are working together to carry out rescue and relief operations. Affected families are being moved to safe locations and provided with tents, food, medicines, and other essentials.

DG PDMA also warned that water released from the Jhelum River in India has increased the risk of floods in Azad Kashmir. Authorities remain on high alert.

Residents are urged to follow government announcements, obey local authorities’ instructions, avoid risky areas, and stay updated on weather and flood alerts.
