Islamabad: Federal government dismissed a widely circulating social media notification as fake claiming the appointment of a “Chief of Defence Forces CDF,” a position for which an official notification is to be issued after due process.
Government Labels Viral Appointment Order as Fabricated
Officials said the notification, which named Field Marshal Asim Munir as the alleged appointee, was fabricated and had no legal or administrative standing. They urged the public to rely on official channels for information regarding defence-related decisions.
False Document Spreads Rapidly Online
The bogus notification spread quickly across multiple social media platforms earlier in the day, prompting confusion regarding senior military appointments. However, authorities clarified that no such order had been issued by any competent ministry or department.
Calls for Caution Against Disinformation
Government representatives warned that the circulation of forged documents can inflame public sentiment and undermine trust in institutions. They emphasized that disinformation campaigns remain a growing challenge and said further action could be taken against those responsible for spreading the fake notification.
Officials reiterated that any authentic announcements concerning the armed forces will be released exclusively through verified government channels.
