Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to hold high-level consultations at the Prime Minister’s House on Saturday, to review the situation and discuss possible measures, inlcuding imposition of emrgency or Governor rule, to restore stability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to hold high-level consultations on either imposing Governor rule or emergency to address the worsening political and security situation in the province, hard hit by militancy.
Senior federal officials, key stakeholders and senior military representatives are expected to participate in the proposed meeting, where the latest security developments and the provincial government’s response to federal concerns could come under discussion.
One proposal being discussed involves possible emergency measures in 12 vulnerable districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including parts of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), according to sources.
However, an official announcement confirming the meeting’s schedule and full list of participants is still awaited.
The proposed consultations come as relations between the federal government and the PTI-led provincial administration continue to deteriorate.
Federal government representatives have expressed concerns over Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s political approach, accusing the provincial leadership of prioritising confrontation over cooperation on security and governance matters.
The Centre is considering how to respond to the provincial government’s position while protecting public safety, maintaining law and order and ensuring the continuity of essential government functions.
The federal authorities are also examining the legal and constitutional powers available to address any serious breakdown in security or administration.
Reports prepared by national security and law enforcement institutions will also be discussed.
Particular attention is likely to be given to areas facing persistent militant violence and cross-border security challenges.
