Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has criticised Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, accusing him of pursuing confrontational politics that could create conditions for the imposition of emergency or governor’s rule in the province.
Speaking at the inauguration of a sports complex in Baldia Town, Karachi, Bilawal said the PPP did not want emergency measures or governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“We do not want an emergency or governor’s rule, but it seems the KP chief minister is trying to create such a situation,” he said.
Bilawal questioned why the provincial chief minister was focusing on political confrontation instead of dialogue, particularly when Pakistan was facing serious security challenges along the Afghan border.
He said governor’s rule was a constitutional option but should only be used as a last resort.
PTI Must Abandon Hardline Politics
The PPP chairman also criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying the party’s hardline political approach was damaging its own interests and disappointing its supporters.
He urged PTI to abandon confrontational politics and participate in democratic processes, including parliamentary discussions and electoral reforms.
Bilawal said PTI frequently complained about election rigging but failed to participate in forums where electoral reforms could be discussed.
He also warned that continuing the same political approach could prolong the imprisonment of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Referring to President Asif Ali Zardari’s 14 years in prison, Bilawal said Imran Khan could break that record if PTI continued with its current political strategy.
However, he added that imprisonment was not permanent and political circumstances could change.
Dialogue Is the Only Solution
Bilawal stressed that political differences should be resolved through negotiations rather than protests and confrontation.
He welcomed Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s efforts to facilitate political dialogue and expressed hope that negotiations would succeed.
He said the success of talks also depended on the attitude of the KP chief minister.
