Atif Aslam said he does not need to explain private choices to the world. In a YouTube interview, the singer spoke about criticism for performing two days after his father passed away in August.

He also looked back on a long journey in music and thanked audiences at home and abroad.

Backlash after Karachi concert

The Independence Day show at Karachi National Stadium drew a full house. Many praised calm delivery and stage control during a difficult week.

Others said the concert should have been cancelled. Atif Aslam replied that life brought tough moments and that every artist faces them. The job is to create and to serve the audience.

Explaining personal circumstances to every critic is not possible. The singer said people should judge songs and performances, not private grief. Work commitments were honoured and the stage became a place to hold steady.

The artist shared a tender farewell on Instagram and asked for prayers. A photo kissing his father on the cheek carried a caption that called him an iron man.

In the interview he remembered a deep bond with devotional music at home. The family watched Tajdar-e-Haram and other qawwalis on television.

His father once cried hearing the Coke Studio version. “That memory still gives strength during shows” he noted. “The stage remains a space to honour a parent who loved melody and faith” further added.

Atif Aslam’s Bollywood memories

Atif Aslam said Bollywood gave friendship and growth. While, studio work, concerts, and composers taught craft and discipline.

Years have passed since the last project in India, yet respect remains for colleagues and listeners.

Although India has repeatedly involved politics, arts and sports with each other.

The singer also spoke about the mindset of a performer. An artist must know strengths and weaknesses and must keep practicing.

He said, “a live arena brings focus and freedom”. Furthermore he added, “losing a father changed the sense of fear and music now carries more resolve and gratitude”.
