A speeding passenger coach struck and critically injured an 8-year-old boy near Karachi’s Northern Bypass, and the child later died during treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, police said Friday.The incident occurred Thursday evening near the Afghan Camp settlement in the Gulshan-e-Maimar police jurisdiction, according to officials.
Police said the child sustained severe injuries when a fast-moving passenger coach hit him near the Afghan Camp area along the Northern Bypass. Rescue teams rushed the injured boy to Jinnah Hospital, where doctors attempted emergency treatment.
Despite medical efforts, the child succumbed to his injuries on Friday, hospital officials confirmed.
Authorities identified the deceased child as Sufyan, 8, son of Saif ur Rehman. His family members were informed immediately after his death, police said.
Gulshan-e-Maimar police seized the passenger coach involved in the incident and arrested the driver. Investigators said they are completing initial legal formalities.
Police said the victim’s family would approach the police station after burial arrangements. A formal case will be registered based on the family’s complaint, officials added.
