WEBDESK: The water level in the Yamuna River reached 205.22 metres at the Old Railway Bridge on Saturday morning, close to the danger mark of 205.33 metres, officials said.
The situation is being closely monitored. Authorities have asked all concerned agencies to take precautionary measures to manage any possible flood-like situation.
Officials said the rise in water levels is mainly due to large volumes of water being released from the Hathnikund and Wazirabad barrages. According to the flood control department, Hathnikund is releasing around 46,968 cusecs per hour, while Wazirabad is releasing 44,970 cusecs per hour.
The Old Railway Bridge is considered a key observation point for tracking the Yamuna’s flow and assessing potential flood risks.
The warning mark for Delhi is 204.50 metres, while the danger level is 205.33 metres. Evacuation of people usually begins when the river reaches 206 metres.
Water released from the barrages generally takes 48 to 50 hours to reach Delhi. Even smaller discharges from upstream are pushing the river close to the danger mark, officials added.
