Kasur administration orders evacuation as Sutlej River overflows

Kasur is just 10 km from the rising Sutlej River, where flood levels are surging forcing immediate evacuation of Kasur citizens.  

Police with civil administration are currently trying to evacuate people before any calamity hit the city.

The National Emergency Operation Center of NDMA has issued an alert for an extraordinary flood at Ganda Singh Wala, saying the river’s flow has crossed 350,000 cusecs.

According to the alert, fresh rains and a possible release of floodwater from India could worsen the situation.

Civil administration and rescue agencies in Kasur and nearby areas are on high alert. As directed by the Prime Minister, NDMA is assisting the provincial government.

The public has been advised to follow safety plans and the instructions of the local administration.

On Friday evening, as the Sutlej reached an extremely high level at Ganda Singh Wala,.

Therefore, local authorities decided to breach the Right Retired Embankment in Kasur.

The PDMA director general said the decision was taken in view of the changing flood situation.

He added that the breach is intended to save the city and reduce pressure on vulnerable points.

An emergency alert Friday evening reported that waterflow at Ganda Singh Wala crossed about 385,000 cusecs, the highest in three decades, and could rise further in the next few hours.

Authorities urged residents to stay prepared and follow official guidance.
