PM Shehbaz calls for unity on 78th Independence Day

WEBDESK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated the nation on the 78th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence.

In a statement on X, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He said they, along with other leaders of the independence movement, united the nation under one mission and turned the dream of an independent, ideological state into reality.

Shehbaz said Pakistan’s 78-year history is one of resilience, faith, and hope. He said the country has faced many challenges but achieved success in many fields.

The Prime Minister hailed Pakistan’s victory in the Marka-e-Haq operation during the recent four-day war with India. He said the triumph had reinforced the sanctity of freedom and renewed the national spirit. He praised the armed forces for acting as a “solid fortified wall” and forcing the enemy to back down. He paid tribute to the martyrs and prayed for them.

Shehbaz said the victory was not just military but also a validation of the Two-Nation Theory. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to defend its national interests, including water resources.

He said Pakistan believes in peaceful coexistence and resolving disputes through dialogue. He called on India to show the same will, including over Jammu and Kashmir.

The Prime Minister said his government puts public welfare first. He pointed to a recent cut in electricity tariffs, giving relief to households and industries.

Shehbaz pledged to mobilise all resources to meet modern economic, industrial, and technological challenges. He said a strong economy is essential for national defence and sovereignty.

On Independence Day, he urged all political forces and citizens to unite in the spirit of 1947 and work for a strong and prosperous Pakistan.
