Suzuki has officially launched its first electric kei car, the E Sky, in Japan, marking another major step in the company’s electric vehicle plans.
The small electric car is expected to go on sale in Japan this autumn, while reports suggest that it could also be introduced in the United Kingdom in 2027. Its expected price in the UK is likely to be below £20,000, putting it in competition with other affordable electric cars such as the Honda Super-N and Renault Twingo.
The Suzuki E Sky has been designed according to Japan’s kei car regulations, which set strict limits on vehicle size and engine performance.
The compact EV measures around 3,395mm in length and 1,475mm in width. Despite its small size, Suzuki says the car has enough interior space to accommodate four passengers comfortably.
The company has not yet revealed complete technical details of the vehicle. However, under Japanese kei car rules, its power output is expected to be limited to around 63 horsepower.
According to Japanese media reports, the E Sky could be equipped with a 26kWh battery, offering a driving range of up to 311 kilometres on a single charge.
If confirmed, this would give it a longer claimed range than some of its main competitors. The Renault Twingo offers up to around 262 km, while the Honda Super-N has a range of about 206 kilometers.
The electric car is also expected to support DC fast charging of up to 50kW. Due to its relatively small battery, charging from 10 to 80 percent could take less than 30 minutes.
It is still unclear whether Suzuki will make changes to the E Sky before launching it in markets outside Japan. Car manufacturers often increase power or modify the design of kei cars when introducing them internationally.
Details about the E Sky’s possible UK launch, specifications and final price have not yet been officially confirmed.
The E Sky is part of Suzuki’s wider plan to introduce more electric vehicles in Europe by 2030. At present, the company’s main electric model is the Suzuki e Vitara, which was launched in 2025.
With its compact size, expected long range and affordable price, the Suzuki E Sky could become an important option in the growing market for small electric cars.
