12 days off in August

Web Desk: Pakistanis could get as many as 12 days off in August 2026, including two federal holidays and 10 regular weekend days, with the month also offering an opportunity for a three-day break around Independence Day.

The first major holiday stretch will come in mid-August. Pakistan will observe Independence Day on Friday, Aug. 14, followed by the usual Saturday and Sunday weekend.

As a result, employees whose regular weekly holidays fall on Saturday and Sunday could enjoy three consecutive days off from Aug. 14 to Aug. 16.

The extended break could provide an opportunity for families to travel, attend Independence Day events or take a short vacation.

Another public holiday is expected later in the month for Eid Milad-un-Nabi, which marks the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad.

Pakistan’s official 2026 holiday schedule lists Tuesday, Aug. 25, as the public holiday for Eid Milad-un-Nabi. However, the final date depends on the sighting of the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast that the new moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal is unlikely to be visible on the evening of Aug. 13. Based on its astronomical assessment, Rabi-ul-Awwal 1 could fall on Saturday, Aug. 15, while 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal could fall on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final announcement after reviewing the moon-sighting reports.

With Independence Day falling on a Friday and the Eid Milad-un-Nabi holiday scheduled later in the month, August is expected to offer several opportunities for extended breaks.

Based on the 2026 calendar, Pakistanis could have 12 days off during the month when federal and regular weekly holidays are combined.

However, the exact date of Eid Milad-un-Nabi will ultimately depend on the official moon-sighting announcement.

For many Pakistanis, the combination of public holidays and weekends could make August one of the year’s most favorable months for short trips, family gatherings and leisure activities.
