Pakistani actress Momina Iqbal has received a public apology from prominent religious scholar Nasir Madni, who withdrew his earlier remarks following the issuance of a legal notice.
Known for his Punjabi-style religious speeches, Nasir Madani had recently made comments about Momina Iqbal that sparked controversy and quickly went viral on social media.
Following the viral clip, Momina Iqbal initiated legal proceedings against Madni. The legal matter was pursued by her sister, Rimsha Iqbal.
In a recent statement, Nasir Madni reconsidered his earlier stance and expressed regret over his remarks.
Addressing the matter, he said: “I want to say to Ms. Momina Iqbal and her family that we also seek your forgiveness. If anything I said caused you personal hurt, all of us present here apologise to you publicly. We also urge all our daughters to raise their voices for other daughters.”
He further said that Rimsha Iqbal is a respected name in the legal profession who has established her own identity. He added that she should continue to speak up for the rights of all daughters, stressing that protecting the honour and dignity of every Pakistani woman is a collective responsibility. He said no one’s daughter should have her reputation tarnished or be made the subject of controversy, adding that all daughters deserve respect and dignity.
Nasir Madni’s statement has drawn mixed reactions on social media. Some users said he made the right decision by retracting his remarks, while others praised Momina Iqbal for standing by her position and receiving support in a male-dominated society.
