Ashura Being Observed Across Pakistan Today in Memory of the Grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the Martyrs of Karbala

Internet, mobile phone services suspended and Section 144 enforced in sensitive areas

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is observing Ashura today with deep religious devotion to commemorate the supreme sacrifices of the grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), and the martyrs of Karbala. Mourning processions have begun in cities and towns across the country.

According to details, mourning processions are being held in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Peshawar, Quetta, and many other large and small cities to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala. Strict security arrangements have been put in place for the occasion.

Roads along procession routes have been closed to unnecessary traffic by placing barriers, while internet and mobile phone services have been suspended in sensitive areas. Section 144 has also been imposed, banning the public display of weapons.

Religious gatherings, mourning processions, and majalis are being held across the country, where scholars and speakers are highlighting the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the timeless message of courage, justice, and steadfastness delivered through the tragedy of Karbala.

Law enforcement agencies have deployed heavy contingents of police and Rangers in major cities. Special checkpoints have been established along procession routes, and extraordinary security measures have been adopted to ensure public safety.

As part of the security plan, mobile phone services have been partially suspended in selected areas, while motorcycle pillion riding has also been banned in several parts of the country to help prevent any untoward incidents.

Ashura is observed by Muslims as a day of sacrifice, patience, and unwavering commitment to truth. On this day, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), along with his family members and companions, laid down their lives in the plains of Karbala while standing against oppression and upholding justice.

Major processions are being held from Nishtar Park in Karachi, Gamay Shah and Nisar Haveli in Lahore, Imambargah Ashiq Hussain in Rawalpindi, and key Imambargahs in Peshawar and Quetta, following their traditional routes under strict security.

According to the Inspector General of Punjab Police, more than 100,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed across the province to provide security for Ashura processions and religious gatherings.

Following the conclusion of the processions, Sham-e-Ghariban gatherings will be held, during which religious scholars will recount the events that followed the tragedy of Karbala before mourners conclude the day’s commemorations.

The Prime Minister, President, Interior Minister, Chief Ministers, and provincial police chiefs have directed all relevant authorities to maintain law and order and ensure the peaceful conduct of Ashura processions nationwide.
