Are thunderstorms about to end the twin cities’ heatwave?

Web Desk: Islamabad and Rawalpindi may finally get relief from scorching temperatures next week as forecasters predict thunderstorms and scattered rainfall after several days of extreme heat.

Weather forecasts indicate that the twin cities will remain hot and mostly dry through Saturday. Temperatures are expected to hover between 38°C and 39°C, while hazy sunshine will dominate the region.

However, conditions could begin to change on Sunday. Forecasters expect cloud development during the afternoon, increasing the likelihood of thunderstorms in parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The heat is likely to intensify before that relief arrives. Temperatures could climb above 40°C early next week, with Monday forecast to be the hottest day of the period. Some areas may experience temperatures as high as 42°C.

Despite the intense heat, meteorologists expect weather conditions to become more favorable for rainfall by midweek. Forecast models show increasing cloud cover on Wednesday and Thursday, raising the possibility of afternoon and evening thunderstorms across the twin cities.

The expected showers could bring temporary relief from the prolonged hot spell. However, weather experts caution that pre-monsoon storms often remain localized. As a result, some neighborhoods may receive heavy rainfall while nearby areas remain largely dry.

The forecast comes as residents continue to endure high temperatures and elevated humidity levels, increasing demand for electricity and cooling systems across the region.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to monitor weather patterns as Pakistan approaches the start of the monsoon season. Seasonal rainfall typically begins affecting northern and central parts of the country in late June and early July.

While widespread rainfall does not appear imminent, the forecast suggests that Islamabad and Rawalpindi could see the first signs of changing weather conditions during the coming week.

Meteorologists advise residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours and remain alert for sudden thunderstorms that could develop later in the week.
