Web Desk: Weather authorities have forecast rain and thunderstorms across large parts of the country’s upper and central regions, offering relief from recent high temperatures, while hot and dry conditions are expected to persist across most districts of Sindh.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said a weather system affecting northern and central areas is likely to trigger intermittent rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms over the coming days.

Cloud cover spread across Islamabad on Sunday, with forecasters predicting periodic rainfall in and around the federal capital. The expected showers are likely to bring down temperatures and improve weather conditions after days of intense heat.

Authorities advised residents to remain cautious during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms.

The PMD said several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to receive rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunder.

Meanwhile, parts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Faisalabad, are also likely to experience rainfall and thunderstorms.

Forecasters said the wet spell could provide temporary relief from soaring temperatures that have affected much of the region in recent weeks.

Rain-bearing clouds are also expected to move across Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, where thunderstorms and scattered showers could create cooler and more pleasant weather conditions.

Meteorologists said mountainous areas may witness localized heavy rainfall, although no major weather-related disruptions have been forecast.

In contrast, most districts of Sindh are expected to remain under hot and dry weather conditions, with temperatures likely to stay above seasonal averages.

The forecast suggests little chance of rainfall across the province, prolonging heat stress in several urban and rural areas.

Weather officials said isolated showers may occur in parts of northeastern Balochistan. However, hot weather is expected to dominate across most of the province.

The PMD said the anticipated rain and dust storms in several regions could lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures, easing the intensity of the current heat spell.

While the cooling effect may be temporary, forecasters expect the wet weather to provide much-needed respite for residents across northern and central Pakistan as summer temperatures continue to climb.
