France vs Iraq World Cup

Web Desk: France secured its place in the FIFA World Cup knockout stage with a commanding 3-0 victory over Iraq in a Group I clash that was interrupted by a lengthy weather delay, as Kylian Mbappe scored twice to lead Les Bleus to victory.

France dominated possession and attacking opportunities from the opening whistle. Mbappe broke the deadlock in the 14th minute, finishing clinically to give his side an early advantage and put Iraq under immediate pressure.

Although Iraq pushed for an equalizer and showed determination throughout the first half, the French defense remained organized and denied clear scoring opportunities. France carried its 1-0 lead into halftime before severe thunderstorms and heavy rain forced officials to delay the start of the second half.

The weather interruption lasted more than two hours as lightning safety protocols were enforced at Philadelphia Stadium, marking the tournament’s first major weather-related delay. Players returned to the pitch after conditions improved and completed an additional warm-up before play resumed.

Once the match restarted, Mbappe quickly reasserted France’s control. The French captain doubled the lead in the 54th minute with his second goal of the evening, continuing his remarkable World Cup scoring record. The strike took his tally to 16 World Cup goals, placing him among the competition’s most prolific scorers.

France maintained relentless pressure and effectively ended the contest in the 66th minute when Ousmane Dembele found the net to make it 3-0. The goal capped another dominant attacking display from Didier Deschamps’ side.

Meanwhile, Iraq continued to battle despite the deficit but struggled to break through France’s disciplined back line. The result leaves France with a perfect start to its World Cup campaign and guarantees progression to the knockout rounds.
