Iran Oman Strait of Hormuz Management

Web Desk: Iran said on Thursday that it will work with Oman to create a joint system for managing the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran and Muscat will develop the framework together. He added that both countries may consult other regional states when needed.

According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, the two countries have agreed to coordinate efforts to oversee maritime activity in the strategic waterway.

Baghaei also said Iran will restore normal shipping traffic within a set timeframe. He stressed that Iran will lead the process and will not require outside involvement.

“Iran will handle this responsibility itself,” Baghaei said. “No foreign party needs to take part in the operation.”

His comments come as Tehran and Washington discuss a broader diplomatic framework that covers maritime security, sanctions relief and future nuclear talks.

Meanwhile, Baghaei said officials are still considering a proposal for the presidents of Iran and the United States to sign a memorandum of understanding.

If approved, the move would give the agreement stronger political support and could help advance future negotiations.

Separately, U.S. President Donald Trump praised the proposed deal. He said the agreement would block Iran from expanding its nuclear capabilities.

Trump also said Iran had entered a new political phase under what he described as a smarter leadership structure.

The latest statements point to growing diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Washington. Both sides appear to be exploring measures that could reduce tensions and support broader negotiations.

The Strait of Hormuz remains vital to global energy markets. A large share of the world’s seaborne oil shipments passes through the narrow waterway each day.

As a result, any new arrangement for managing the strait is likely to attract close attention from governments, traders and energy companies around the world.
