Web Desk: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government declared a public holiday across the province to mark the first day of the sacred month of Muharram-ul-Haram and the commencement of the new Islamic lunar year.

According to an official notification issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Administration Department, the public holiday remains strictly conditional upon the formal sighting of the Muharram moon.

The administration department confirmed that all public offices, administrative departments, and educational institutions throughout the province will remain completely closed on the first of Muharram.

Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened a high-level meeting today to determine the baseline sighting of the crescent moon. Committee Chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad presided over the central session.

To ensure scientific accuracy alongside traditional observations, technical experts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), and the Ministry of Science and Technology also participated in the deliberations.

Simultaneously, regional and zonal moon-sighting committees held parallel meetings across major provincial capitals and the federal capital of Islamabad to gather local testimonies.

Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will evaluate all incoming testimonies and sharia compliant evidence from the zonal bodies.

Consequently, the central chairman will make the final official announcement regarding the exact start date of Muharram-ul-Haram and the official implementation day of the provincial holiday.
