The FIFA World Cup 2026 will commence in a novel format this time, featuring a first-of-its-kind series of multi opening ceremonies held across all three host nations—Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
With the tournament comprises of 48 teams, organizers have planned separate but interlinked celebrations in each country, aiming to reflect local culture and artistic heritage of each nation while promoting a shared message of unity among the hosts.
Opening ceremony in Mexico
Opening ceremony: Thursday, June 11, 10:00 PM (PKT)
Mexico vs South Africa kickoff: Friday, June 12, 12:00 AM (PKT)
The inagural celebrations will start in Mexico City prior to Mexico’s opening match against South Africa. The program will project Mexico’s cultural heritage, including Indigenous performances, traditional dance, and visual art such as papel picado. International and regional artists such as Shakira, Burna Boy, J Balvin, Alejandro Fernández, Lila Downs, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Maná, and Los Ángeles Azules are expected toperform.

Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina kickoff: Saturday, June 13, 12:00 AM (PKT)

The second ceremony willbe held in Toronto before Canada’s first group match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. This segment will higlight the idea of Canada as a cultural mosaic, showcasing its diversity through music, dance, and multimedia performances. Key performers include Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, Vegedream, and William Prince.

The third and last opening event will be held in Los Angeles ahead of the United States’ match against Paraguay. It is expected to feature large-scale stage productions and immersive visual storytelling, along with global music acts including Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, Rema, and Tyla.
After each ceremony ends, focus will shift to matchday proceedings, with official FIFA pre-game protocols—such as player walkouts and national anthems—beginning roughly 25 minutes before kickoff.
Overall, the tournament is set to involve a record 1,248 players representing their countries across the expanded competition.
