Public transport fares decreased

Buses and terminals that fail to reduce fares will be sealed, says Secretary RTA Rana Mohsin.

A meeting chaired by the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Lahore was held at the Transport House, attended by representatives of all private transport companies and transporters’ unions.

The Transport Department has reduced public transport fares by 4 percent.

During the meeting, transporters agreed to a 4 percent reduction in fares. Secretary RTA Rana Mohsin said that fares would be reduced by 4 percent immediately, and all transporters would be bound to display new fare charts reflecting the reduction without delay.

He added that the reduction in fares would provide direct relief to the public, and buses and terminals that fail to implement the reduced fares would be sealed.

Earlier today President of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, Malik Shahzad Awan, welcomed the federal government’s decision to reduce diesel and petrol prices and announced a reduction in goods transport fares.

Reacting to the government’s decision to lower petroleum prices, Malik Shahzad Awan said, “We announce a 6 percent reduction in goods transport fares.”

He said they were grateful to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for deciding to reduce diesel and petrol prices and expressed hope that petroleum prices would be reduced further.

He added that the reduction in petroleum prices provides relief not only to transporters but to every Pakistani. Due to war-like conditions, imports and exports in the country have declined drastically, resulting in very limited business activity.
