Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s short but highly important official visit to Iran has concluded, during which he held key meetings with senior Iranian leadership.
According to ISPR: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held high-level talks with the Iranian leadership under ongoing mediation efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and promoting constructive engagement.
Following the ceasefire on 8 April 2026, important consultations were held in Iran on the ongoing regional tensions, and it was agreed to accelerate the negotiation process for peace and stability.
Besides, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
Both sides discussed in detail regional peace, stability, and the advancement of a comprehensive consultative process for final reconciliation between Pakistan and Iran.
In highly important talks over the past 24 hours, encouraging progress was reported, with positive movement toward a final understanding.
The Iranian leadership appreciated Pakistan’s sincere and constructive role in promoting peaceful resolution of regional issues and encouraging dialogue.
Upon arrival in Tehran, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni along with senior civil and military officials.
Marco Robio Statement following Field Marshal Asim Munir’s Tehran visit:
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Iran is expected to accept a deal to end the war today.
Speaking to journalists, Marco Rubio said that there could be an announcement “today, tomorrow, or in the next few days.”
The U.S. Secretary of State also said he is hopeful for positive news regarding the Iran conflict.
He further stated that there has been some progress in negotiations with Iran.
The statement comes after Field Marshal Asim Munir’s recent visit to Iran and his high-level talks with Iranian leadership. Marco Rubio’s statement indicates a big development in the ongoing negotiation between US and Iran.
Earlier Marco Robio had said he remained in continuous contact with Pakistan’s top leadership, including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and that the US was working together with Pakistan on Iran-related diplomatic efforts.
He reiterated that Pakistan has played an important and fundamental role in the negotiations between Iran and the United States. Pakistan has provided significant assistance in this process, and high-level contacts are ongoing.
