Pakistan has officially announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon, following which the 1st of Dhul Hijjah 1447 Hijri will fall on Monday, May 18, while Eid ul Adha will be celebrated across the country on Wednesday, May 27.
The meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. During the session, testimonies received from different parts of the country were reviewed in detail. After verification, the chairman formally announced that the Dhul Hijjah moon had been sighted and the new Islamic month would begin on May 18.
Reports from the Meteorological Department and other relevant institutions were also reviewed during the meeting, after which it was unanimously decided that the 1st of Dhul Hijjah would be observed on May 18 and Eid ul Adha on Wednesday, May 27.
Eid ul Adha is one of the most significant religious festivals for Muslims and is observed in remembrance of the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). On this occasion, animals are sacrificed across the country in accordance with the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
Saudi Arabia has officially announced the sighting of the moon for Dhul Hijjah, marking the beginning of the new Islamic month in the Kingdom. Eid ul Adha will be celebrated in Saudi Arabia on May 27.
Meanwhile, Indonesia has also confirmed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon. Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs announced that Eid ul Adha will be celebrated in the country on Wednesday, May 27.
Similarly, Tunisia and Turkey have also officially announced the beginning of Dhul Hijjah. Tunisia declared May 18 as the 1st of Dhul Hijjah and announced Eid ul Adha for May 27. Tunisia is considered the first country to announce the start of Dhul Hijjah after confirming the moon sighting on May 16, which was observed as the 29th of Dhul Qa’dah.
On the other hand, Turkey has also set May 18 as the 1st of Dhul Hijjah. Instead of the traditional moon-sighting method, Turkey follows a pre-calculated Islamic calendar based on astronomical calculations, under which such dates are determined in advance.
