Web Desk: Donald Trump said the United States will temporarily pause its naval escort mission in the Strait of Hormuz. He cited progress in talks with Iran and a request from Pakistan and other nations.

Trump announced the move on Truth Social. He said negotiators had made “great progress” toward a “complete and final agreement” with Tehran. He added that Washington would suspend “Project Freedom” for now. However, the broader blockade on Iran will remain in place.

The Strait of Hormuz links the Persian Gulf to global markets. It carries nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply. Tensions rose after Iran restricted shipping during the conflict. In response, the U.S. deployed naval forces to escort vessels and deter Iranian action.

Meanwhile, Pakistan stepped up behind-the-scenes diplomacy. Officials in Islamabad urged Washington to avoid escalation and focus on talks. Shehbaz Sharif appealed directly to Trump to extend timelines and support dialogue with Tehran, officials said.

Pakistani authorities also proposed steps to ease pressure on Iran. They worked to keep multiple negotiation channels open. Diplomatic contacts continued with regional stakeholders and through backchannels.

Analysts view the pause as a confidence-building measure. It creates space for a deal without signaling a full military pullback. U.S. officials say their campaign has already met key objectives. However, Iran has denied suffering significant losses.

Experts say Pakistan’s role highlights its growing diplomatic reach. They note its efforts to balance ties between Washington and Tehran during a period of rising geopolitical risk.
