Punjab board exam policy for failed students

Lahore: In a major relief for students, all educational boards across Punjab have increased examination opportunities for failed candidates from four to six, offering students more chances to complete their studies.

According to the new policy, students who fail will now be allowed to appear in examinations six times within a period of four years. The decision has been implemented from the Annual Examinations 2024.

Reports said the revised policy applies to all Punjab boards and is aimed at providing students with greater flexibility and reducing academic pressure by giving them additional opportunities to improve their results.

The decision covers Matric, Intermediate, O-Level and A-Level students across all groups. Authorities said students availing additional chances will appear under the current syllabus in force at the time of examination.

The policy will also apply to students appearing in additional subject examinations after passing, broadening its scope beyond failed candidates alone.

Students and parents have termed the move a positive step that could help reduce dropout rates and support students in completing their academic journey successfully.

Previously the policy provided only four chances of exam attempts which was considered a flawed policy, causing major dropouts. A large number of students was affected as they would hardly pass their exams.
