Pakistan’s ports are witnessing an unprecedented rise in activity, signaling the country’s growing importance in global trade amid shifting international dynamics.
According to The Pakistan Index, transshipment activity at Karachi Port over the past 24 days alone has matched an entire year’s volume.
In 2025, around 8,300 containers were handled. In just 24 days, 8,313 containers have already been processed. This highlights a massive spike in cargo movement in a very short time.
As reported by Arab News, disruptions in shipping routes in the Gulf region have forced global trade routes to shift, benefiting Pakistan. Policy changes allowing cargo handling between sea and air ports have also boosted transshipment activity.
South Asia Pakistan Terminal handled 5,286 containers
Hutchison Port processed 1,827 containers
Karachi Gateway Terminal managed 1,200 containers
Global experts believe that ongoing tensions in the Middle East have created a golden opportunity for Pakistan to emerge as a permanent transshipment hub. With alternative routes being explored, Pakistan is increasingly seen as a reliable option.
Experts say improved political and economic stability, along with strategic leadership, is boosting investor confidence. Projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and modern infrastructure are further strengthening Pakistan’s position as a regional trade and logistics hub.
Pakistan is rapidly positioning itself as a safe, stable, and attractive destination for global trade and investment, with its ports playing a key role in this transformation.
