Abu Dhabi / Tehran: Diplomatic relations between Iran and the United Arab Emirates have been suspended following a sharp escalation in regional tensions. Emirati authorities announced the closure of their embassy in Tehran and the recall of their ambassador, citing recent attacks allegedly carried out by Iran against the UAE.
According to international media reports, Iran claimed responsibility for targeting 14 U.S. military bases across Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, and Qatar. Iranian officials also claimed that hundreds of personnel were killed in the attacks; however, these claims have not been independently verified.
Emirati officials stated that missiles launched toward the capital, Abu Dhabi, were intercepted and destroyed mid-air by air defense systems. However, debris from the intercepted missiles reportedly resulted in the death of a Pakistani national.
Meanwhile, Saudi authorities confirmed that Iran attempted to target Riyadh and eastern regions of the kingdom with missiles. The Saudi air defense system successfully intercepted the projectiles, and no major casualties were reported.
Qatar strongly condemned the Iranian attacks and temporarily closed its airspace as a precautionary measure. As a result, several flights at Hamad International Airport were suspended.
In Bahrain, authorities advised citizens to remain alert through emergency sirens after Iran claimed to have targeted the U.S. Fifth Fleet stationed there. However, no confirmed reports of casualties or significant damage have emerged.
