Web Desk: The Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights has recommended formal legislation to regulate tinted vehicle windows across Pakistan.
The committee proposed allowing up to 30 percent tint on windshields and front side windows, while passenger-side windows could be fully darkened. It also suggested that violations be punished with fines rather than criminal proceedings.
Chairperson Samina Mumtaz Zahri wrote a letter to the chairman of the Interior Committee detailing the recommendations. She emphasised that windshields and front windows should meet a 70 percent visible light transmission (VLT) standard.
To ensure compliance, the committee proposed introducing digital meters and an automated e-challan system for checking tinted windows. These measures aim to streamline enforcement and reduce legal complications while maintaining road safety standards.
The Interior Committee is expected to review the recommendations and consider drafting legislation that balances vehicle privacy, safety and regulatory oversight.
