Web desk: The Counter Terrorism Department carried out two major intelligence based operations in Quetta and Barkhan and killed 14 terrorists. Officials said the teams planned the actions carefully and used modern weapons to prevent possible large scale attacks on sensitive locations.
In Quetta security forces conducted a raid in the Darakhshan area after receiving credible intelligence. When officers surrounded the suspected hideout the terrorists opened heavy fire. Security personnel responded quickly and killed eight terrorists during the exchange. After the operation teams cleared the area. Authorities recovered automatic weapons hand grenades and a large quantity of ammunition from the site.
Officials said the slain terrorists belonged to a banned organization. They were planning attacks on security forces government installations and civilians. During the operation three CTD personnel sustained injuries. Authorities shifted them to a nearby hospital and doctors declared them out of danger.
In a separate operation in Rakhni area of Barkhan CTD teams acted on intelligence reports about terrorists hiding in a safe house. As forces advanced towards the location an exchange of fire began. After an intense encounter security teams killed six terrorists. Officers seized weapons and explosive materials that officials said were meant for major sabotage activities.
Meanwhile the security situation in Dera Ismail Khan remained tense after unknown attackers targeted the York police station. The assailants opened sudden fire which resulted in the martyrdom of one police officer. Police responded promptly and forced the attackers to flee.
While escaping the attackers also targeted a nearby customs check post and injured two personnel. Authorities provided immediate medical assistance to the injured and launched a large search operation. Security officials tightened checking at entry and exit points of the city and deployed additional forces at sensitive locations.
DIG Syed Anwar Hussain said authorities offered funeral prayers for the martyred officer at Ejaz Shaheed Police Line with full state honors. He vowed that law enforcement agencies would arrest the attackers soon and continue operations until they eliminate terrorism completely.
Officials recalled that a recent attack in the same circle targeted a DSP and an SHO which resulted in the martyrdom of four police officers including the SHO. After the latest incidents security agencies strengthened coordination and surveillance to prevent further threats.
