ISLAMABAD: Attaullah Tarar, the Federal Information Minister, has negated the claims of suspension of government ads to the Dawn media group. He further added that the Dawn media group has received Rs. 8.6 billion in government advertisements in the last 13 months.

In a special interview with WE news, the minister denied the claim that government advertisements to Dawn were completely suspended.

He also stated that he can provide full details of the government advertisements issued to the Dawn media group over the last 13 months.

He explained that government advertisements are released under different publicity campaigns. Tarar further stated there is no fixed quota for such advertisements.

Tarar also suggested that such a large media group should not rely on government advertisements as its source of income.

According to Tarar, media organisations should explore other revenue streams rather than only depending on state ads.

He also stated that it was quite unfortunate that such a major institution like the Dawn group laid off so many employees after receiving such a large volume of advertisements.
