Punjab winter holidays from tomorrow

LAHORE: Winter holidays in Punjab for schools and other educational institutions are starting from tomorrow. Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said the decision was taken mainly to protect children from the harmful effects of smog.

She explained that smog usually becomes worse during the winter season, and keeping students at home during this time will help keep them safe. According to her, the academic calendar was already planned while keeping smog conditions in mind.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said that in earlier years, smog mostly started in October and November. This year, after checking the weather and air situation, the government decided to announce winter holidays at the right time.

She also shared that the government’s efforts to control smog are starting to show positive results. However, she warned that cold weather and slow wind can sometimes cause a temporary increase in air pollution levels.

The senior minister added that fog and high humidity in the air can further affect air quality in the coming days. Because of this, people are advised to be careful, especially children, elderly people, and those with breathing problems.

Maryam Aurangzeb said the government is strictly enforcing environmental laws. Action is being taken against industrial pollution, and traffic-related rules are also being followed more closely to reduce smog.

The Punjab government has asked the public to cooperate and play their part in keeping the air clean during the winter season.
