Islamabad: Kyrgyzstan’s President arrived in Islamabad on a two-day official visit on Wednesday, aiming to deepen economic, energy and investment cooperation between the two nations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited him for the trip, and both President Asif Ali Zardari and the prime minister received him at the airport.

Talks Focus on Trade, Energy and Investment

During the visit, both sides are expected to hold wide-ranging discussions on strengthening economic ties, expanding energy collaboration and encouraging new investment flows. Senior ministers from both countries will join the meetings, reflecting the scope of the bilateral agenda.

Agreements Expected at Prime Minister’s House

Later in the day, the two leaders will meet at the Prime Minister’s House, where officials anticipate the signing of more than a dozen agreements and memoranda of understanding. These will cover cooperation in multiple sectors, including trade facilitation, energy partnerships and broader diplomatic engagement.

CASA-1000 and Visa Issues on the Table

Furthermore, the discussions are likely to include progress on the regional CASA-1000 power project and the visa status of Pakistanis living or working in Kyrgyzstan. According to officials, both sides hope to create a more predictable and supportive framework for mobility and labor cooperation.

Visit Timed With Regional Engagement

The visit follows recent interactions between the two leaders on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meetings, where they agreed to accelerate bilateral initiatives. As the talks continue, both governments express optimism that the trip will mark a significant step toward closer strategic and economic collaboration.
