Girl Missing for 17 Years Reunited With Family Through Edhi Centre Karachi

KARACHI: A girl who went missing from Islamabad 17 years ago has been found at the Edhi Centre in Karachi.

Kiran, now 27, was reunited with her father after the Edhi Centre Karachi identified her with the support and efforts of Safe City Punjab. She had disappeared nearly two decades earlier from Islamabad.

During the meeting with her family, Kiran shared that she had left home to buy ice cream but lost her way. Someone later brought her to the Edhi Centre in Islamabad. Some time afterwards, the late Bilquis Edhi took her to Karachi, where she remained under the organisation’s care.

Kiran said she received both religious and academic education during her stay at the Edhi Centre and described her time there as pleasant and nurturing.

Expressing her happiness on reuniting with her family, Kiran said this was the most important day of her life.

According to Edhi Centre in-charge Shabana Faisal, Kiran had been sent to Islamabad several times via bus in an attempt to trace her parents, but no clue was found earlier.

She added that in recent days, 12 children across the country have been reunited with their families, and Kiran is the fifth girl from Karachi whose parents have been successfully traced.

The efforts of the Edhi Foundation have been widely appreciated on social media, and news of Kiran’s return home has created a wave of joy and emotional reaction among the public.
