US House approves bill to release more Epstein files

WASHINGTON: The US House of Representatives has approved a bill calling for the release of additional documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

A total of 427 members voted in favour of the bill, while Republican Clay Higgins opposed it. The legislation has now been sent to the Senate for voting.

Over the past several days, President Donald Trump had claimed that the resolution was an attempt by Democrats to divert attention from other issues.

However, shortly before the vote, Trump shifted his stance, saying House Republicans should support the release of the Epstein files, adding that “we have nothing to hide.”

Democrats had earlier pointed to more than 20,000 pages of Epstein-related documents that allegedly suggested Trump was aware of Epstein’s sexual exploitation and criminal activities. Trump has repeatedly denied having any connection to Epstein’s abuse or trafficking operations.

Jeffrey Epstein was previously convicted for sexually exploiting and trafficking underage girls. The case attracted intense scrutiny in the United States, with citizens demanding transparency about Epstein’s clients.

Legal experts emphasize that any claims about individuals must be verified through credible court documents before drawing conclusions. Meanwhile, public and political interest continues to focus on potential disclosures from Epstein-related files that could shed light on the international reach of his network.
