ISLAMABAD: Azaad Fact Check has flagged the spread of false information on WhatsApp concerning former DG ISI, Gen Faiz Hameed.
A fabricated message is being shared claiming punitive action against him.
Authorities have confirmed that the message is entirely false and misleading, and no punishment has been announced regarding Gen Faiz Hameed.
In December 2024, the Pakistan Army had announced that the ISI’s former chief Faiz Hameed had been indicted by a military court on three counts including engaging in political activities, violating anti-espionage laws, and abusing his authority.
“Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (retd) has been formally arraigned on charges of engaging in political activities, violations of Official Secret Act detrimental to safety and interest of the state, misuse of authority and government resources and causing wrongful loss to a person(s),” the ISPR had said in a press statement.
Gen Hameed has been held in custody since August of last year. On August 12, the military announced the launch of FGCM proceedings against him, citing violations of the Army Act and misconduct, following a complaint from the owner of a private housing society.
The case arose after a Supreme Court ruling in November 2023, which instructed petitioner Moeez Ahmed Khan, owner of Islamabad’s Top City housing society, to address his grievances through proper channels, including the Ministry of Defence.
According to the ISPR, Gen Hameed was also being investigated for his alleged role in the May 9 riots, incidents that involved damage to military properties and monuments.
“During the process, involvement of Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed (retd) in events related to creating agitation and unrest, leading to multiple incidents including, but not limited to May 9, 2023, for fomenting instability at the behest of and in collusion with vested political interests, is also being separately investigated,” the statement had said.
