Schools to Remain Closed Amidst Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Guru Nanak

Nankana Sahib: Authorities in Nankana Sahib have completed preparations for the 556th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. District officials announced that all public and private schools will remain closed from November 4 to 6, while educational activities at Baba Guru Nanak University will be suspended from November 3 to 6. Colleges across the city will also remain closed, according to a formal notification issued by Chief Executive Education Shazia Bano and the university administration.

Thousands of Sikh Pilgrims Expected

The festivities are set to draw thousands of Sikh pilgrims from around the world, including India. The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi recently issued visas to 2,100 Indian Sikh pilgrims under the 1974 bilateral protocol on visits to religious sites, which allows citizens of both countries to visit each other’s sacred places. Every yera the celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji are celebrated in Pakistan with full zeal and enthusiasm.

Pilgrimage Route and Government Support

During their visit, pilgrims will attend Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal, and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Narowal. Chargé d’Affaires Saad Ahmed Waraich welcomed the visitors and expressed Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating access to Sikh religious sites while promoting interfaith harmony.
