out of politics

Rawalpindi: The Pakistan Army has reiterated its commitment to stay out of politics, saying that decisions related to governance, including the imposition of governor’s rule or sending troops abroad, fall solely under the authority of the civilian government and parliament.

Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said on Monday that the military remains focused on national security and counterterrorism, not political affairs. “The army does not wish to get entangled in politics and should be kept away from political matters,” he told reporters at a press briefing in Rawalpindi.

Government to decide on Gaza peace mission

Lt. Gen. Chaudhry said that the government and parliament will make any decision on dispatching a peacekeeping contingent to Gaza after due consideration. “It is for the elected leadership to determine Pakistan’s participation in any peace force,” he said, adding that Pakistan continues to support regional stability and humanitarian efforts.

Over 1,600 militants killed in counterterrorism operations

The ISPR chief reported that security forces have killed more than 1,667 militants in ongoing “Operation Fitna al-Khawarij,” targeting extremist networks across the country. Moreover, he said the army’s campaign clearly demonstrates its strong resolve to eliminate terrorism and maintain internal peace.

“The Pakistan Army is fully prepared to defend its borders and protect its people,” he stated. “Our response to terrorism has produced the results we expected.”

Pakistan rejects talks with militants

Lt. Gen. Chaudhry firmly ruled out negotiations with terrorist elements. “There will never be any talks with terrorists,” he said, emphasizing that Pakistan’s stance remains uncompromising on national security.

He said that security forces neutralized 206 terrorists in recent engagements, while cross-border infiltration attempts from Afghanistan continue to pose challenges. “Afghanistan’s conditions or interpretations carry no weight for us. What matters is the complete elimination of terrorism,” he asserted.

Registration of Madaras Still a Question Mark

The number of religious schools, or madrasas, in Pakistan has risen sharply since the introduction of the National Action Plan in 2014. At that time, authorities reported around 38,000 madrasas nationwide, but current estimates suggest their number has grown to more than 100,000.

Despite this rapid expansion, registration and oversight of these institutions remain a significant challenge.

Concerns over cross-border smuggling

The military spokesperson also highlighted the issue of large-scale narcotics smuggling from Afghanistan into Pakistan, calling it a serious threat to national stability and public safety. He said authorities would deal strictly with criminal networks involved in such activities.

DGISPR Warns of Potential Indian False-Flag Operation

DGISPR has warned that India is preparing another false-flag operation in the maritime domain. Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that India is free to act on land, in the air or at sea, but this time, the consequences of any aggressive move would be more severe than before.

He emphasized that Pakistan remains fully vigilant and ready to respond decisively to any provocation, adding that the military’s priority is to protect the country’s borders and citizens. “We will closely monitor all developments and ensure the safety and security of our nation,” Lt. Gen. Chaudhry said, highlighting the army’s preparedness for all contingencies.

Counterterrorism Achievements in 2025

Security forces intensified counterterrorism operations across the country in 2025, carrying out 62,113 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) an average of 208 per day. During these operations, authorities reported 4,373 terrorist incidents nationwide. Security forces killed 1,667 terrorists, including 128 Afghan nationals operating inside Pakistan.

The campaign, according to officials, resulted in 1,073 security personnel killed, comprising 584 army members and 133 law enforcement officers. Additionally, 356 civilians lost their lives during terrorist attacks.

In Khyber, authorities recorded 514 incidents, resulting in 77 terrorists killed. Casualties in the region included 36 army and Frontier Corps personnel killed and 138 injured, along with one police officer killed and two injured. Twelve civilians were killed and 11 injured in these operations.

Response to Chief Minister KPK

During the briefing, a journalist asked the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) about comments from the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regarding “collateral damage.” In response, the DG ISPR emphasized that the government and the state must prioritize performance and governance.

He said that when politicians use statements and accusations to compensate for ineffective governance, officials must focus on delivering results rather than engaging in political rhetoric.

Appeal for institutional respect and unity

In conclusion, the ISPR chief urged all institutions and political forces to maintain their constitutional boundaries and work together for Pakistan’s progress. Furthermore, he said the army’s focus remains on national defense, stability and the safety of the people. He added that, therefore, parties must resolve political disputes through democratic processes.
