PESHAWAR: A blast occurred at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Peshawar on Sunday, reportedly caused by a short circuit.
According to police officials, one CTD officer was martyred while two others sustained injuries in the explosion, which also damaged a portion of the building.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar, Dr. Saeed, stated that the blast resulted from an electrical short circuit that ignited explosive material stored in the station. He confirmed there were no signs of a terrorist attack. “Three CTD personnel were present at the time of the incident; one embraced martyrdom while two were injured,” he added.
The CCPO further mentioned that part of the building collapsed due to the explosion, and four detainees were safely evacuated from the station.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations said that the CTD station and surrounding areas have been sealed off, with additional personnel deployed for security. He also confirmed that one section of the building sustained significant damage in the blast.
