RAWALPINDI: On the second day of the Rawalpindi Test, Pakistan were bowled out for 333 runs in their first innings, while South Africa reached 76 for the loss of two wickets in reply.
For the Proteas, Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton opened the innings but could not build a strong partnership. Rickelton was the first to go, caught behind off Shaheen Afridi for 14 when the total was 22. Markram followed soon after, dismissed by Sajid Khan for 32. At stumps, Tristan Stubbs was batting on 18 and Tony de Zorzi on 10.
Earlier, Pakistan resumed their first innings from 259 for five, with Saud Shakeel on 42 and Agha Salman on 10. Both players contributed valuable runs, as Shakeel reached his half-century before being dismissed for 66, while Salman Ali Agha fell for 45.
The lower order, however, failed to add much to the total. Shaheen Afridi, Sajid Khan, and Asif Afridi were all removed by spinner Keshav Maharaj, who delivered a superb spell, finishing with seven wickets. Simon Harmer and Kagiso Rabada claimed two and one wicket respectively, while Nauman Ali remained unbeaten on six.
On the opening day, Pakistan’s captain Shan Masood scored 87, and Abdullah Shafique made 57 after the hosts opted to bat first.
Pakistan currently lead the two-match Test series 1-0, having defeated South Africa by 93 runs in the first Test in Lahore.
