Chairman of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF), Syed Qamar Raza, has issued a clarification in response to a press release circulated by the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), stating that the committee’s statement is an attempt to distort facts through speculation.
Syed Qamar Raza said that his contact with the Joint Awami Action Committee was solely a personal initiative aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to the issue. He added that the welfare of overseas Pakistanis and addressing their concerns remain his foremost priority and responsibility.
He further stated that the purpose of contacting the committee was neither political nor driven by personal interests, but rather to persuade its members to refrain from violence and adopt a peaceful course of action. According to him, the majority of the committee’s members responded positively and rationally to the proposal for a peaceful resolution.
The OPF Chairman expressed regret that certain elements were attempting to exploit a sincere and well-intentioned initiative for cheap media publicity. He clarified that he did not represent any third party, but rather represented his people and the institution he serves.
Syed Qamar Raza said that the sole objective of his efforts was his love for the region and its people, and their welfare. He added that initiatives aimed at promoting peace, reconciliation, and public well-being would not be undermined by any negative propaganda campaign.
