WEBDESK: A portion of the Multan–Sukkur Motorway (M-5) was washed away by floodwater near Jalalpur Pirwala, forcing authorities to shut the route for all traffic.
Police officials said the damage occurred after a breach near Uch Sharif Road, which caused severe destruction to the motorway. The National Highway Authority (NHA) tried to repair the bridge, but work had to be stopped due to the strong water flow.
Officials added that pressure on the protective embankment safeguarding Jalalpur city is now easing. Meanwhile, as water levels in the Chenab River begin to fall, flooded areas of Shujaabad have also started to dry up.
However, the breach at Uch Sharif Road has left dozens of villages affected. Rescue teams are carrying out operations to protect people and property in the area.
Separately, authorities reported a high flood at Guddu Barrage and a medium-level flood at Sukkur Barrage
